Brush, Chalk & Charcoal: Framing Your World

What you need to know…

How much is this course?

$75.00

Is this course different from the beginner one you currently have available?

Completely. This one is intermediate level and is a natural continuation from my first course. It’s 33 real-time coaching videos exploring the finer points of seeing, improving your techniques, and teaching you new media! Clear instructions are paired with a suggested lesson plan and extra drawing prompts for practice.

What does it cover?

We will use a variety of different media:

  • Brush & watercolor

  • Chalk, charcoal, oil pastel, color sticks, conte crayon

  • How to use a picture plane

  • Toned drawing paper

  • Unique brushes

  • Colored pencils

We will use many methods of seeing that will help you and your student:

  • Become more aware of spaces and edges

  • Better define shapes

  • Perceive & mix colors with more proficiency

  • Discern lights and shadows with skill

  • Understand form

  • Gain foundational muscle memory

We will sketch a variety of objects and models from real life—everything from your hand to the trees outside. The breadth of the course will give you more confidence in your ability to sketch what you see!

Is there a bundle deal?

Yes! Check it out:

Is there a group course license for small co-ops?

Yes, please read who is eligible for the group courses here. Licensing for large schools, curriculum providers, and conferences can be negotiated. Contact me to ask questions of that nature.

Can I use the second course without having gone through the first?

Absolutely, especially if you have just played around with a brush enough to be comfortable. But, going through "Foundations in Drawing" will certainly help. Both make reference to each other.

My kids are not a fan of charcoal...would it still be beneficial to go through the program if we skip those lessons?

Certainly! This new course makes use of many different types of media and you are free to use what you already have or prefer. I will show you exactly how to modify for that. But I have to ask--have they tried any of my charcoal lessons? They might change their minds! Here’s a free lesson video from this course to watch:
