Bestowing the Brush 2020-209.jpg

Everything you want to know about the beginner drawing course…

Is this course “by level?” What ages can do this?

Ages 1-100. The tutorials were crafted for the beginner in mind, no matter how old. Beta testing families ranged from children ages 4-13 and everyone did well with the work—even parents! The students are encouraged to stop, pause, rewind, or try it another day if any frustration arises in one sitting.

Who is this course for?

Homeschool families love it, and are often working the videos with everyone at the table at one time—even parents! If you can hold a brush and respond to verbal and visual directions, this course is for you no matter what age.

What is the content of this course?

18 videos cover beginner brush drawing and will help the student develop more fine motor skill and accuracy. The remaining 15 videos teach chalk on regular blackboard, vine/compressed charcoal on paper, visual concepts, and teacher/student support. I go over proper care for materials, setting up your area, clean-up, and I include links for my favorite supplies.

The 33 high quality videos include:

  • Lesson tutorials in brush, chalk & charcoal

  • Up close, slow-motion quick skill videos

  • Teacher & student mindset coaching

  • Foundational visual concepts that apply to all drawing

  • A companion PDF with written instructions

  • Bonus: A PDF full of extra drawing prompts!

Do I have to know anything about drawing before purchasing this course?

Absolutely not, in fact, that’s the point. A complete beginner would benefit from this course!

Are they short lessons—20 minutes or less?

The average video length is 6 minutes per video. They are short enough to pre-watch to prep for the lesson, but also short enough to be taken in the lesson time “open and go” style--especially after the first three videos, since by then you’ll have the base knowledge of setting up.

Buy one time? Or subscription style?

Buy one time. Keep forever. Download to your computer, or stream on Gumroad. :)

Will there be a way to ask questions and get support and help?

Yes, you can always contact me here.

Will there be a social media group membership with this course?

No, but perhaps an idea for the future!

Is color theory instruction in this one?

No, not this one. But there is some free color theory work on my YouTube channel right here.

Day 2-71.jpg

There are a range of skill levels in my homeschool. What will the skill level be?

Beginner. Very basic and then up to intermediate. Plus, a nice variety of work—brush drawing, chalk and charcoal (any short drawing media, basically). Open-ended prompts appear at the end of each video and on a handy PDF to promote productive practice in between videos, too.

Price?

$75.00 for the one-time download that you keep forever. No shipping.

Unlimited access?

Yes, download to your computer and keep forever! Or stream on Gumroad.

Does it include anything a tween girl would be interested in--fashion, faces, cats, horses?

Yes and no. Nothing age or boy/girl specific. Only general drawing principles/ how to, and an emphasis on seeing. If you learn the foundations of drawing, you can learn anything from fashion sketching to equine portraits so easily after that.

Do children appear in these videos? Sometimes my kids do better if only the teacher is in the instructional video.

No, just me teaching you for best possible clarity.

Do I teach internships or one-on-one style tutorships?

Maybe in the future, but not right now!

How detailed is the brush drawing portion of the course?

I go over the very basics and up to some intermediate level brushwork. Plus, there’s extra prompts for free drawing time. I also show very up close and slow-motion “quick skill” videos like this:

Do you have more questions? I’d love to answer!
